Frankincense oil mixes well with carrier oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, and shea butter. Depending on the benefits you seek, it can be combined with other essential oils. It, for example, blends well with citrus oils (such as lemon and frankincense oils) as a "pick-me-up," whereas lavender and frankincense oils blend well and work as a relaxant. As a result, it is a versatile and popular oil that lends itself well to a wide range of combinations and practical applications. To begin reaping the benefits of frankincense oil, try one of the following recipes:

. Body Butter for Scar Reduction

. Time total: 5 minutes

. 4 servings.

INGREDIENTS:

. 2 oz. shea butter/coconut oil

. ten drops jasmine oil, ten drops frankincense oil

. To mix the ingredients, use a small container or jar.

DIRECTIONS:

. Melt the shea butter in a double boiler until it is liquid.

. Check that the oil is not too hot to touch before adding the other oils and stirring to combine. It is best if the shea butter is at room temperature or slightly warmer.

. You can smear it on your scar right away, or if you want to make it into a shelf-stable cream texture, place the mixture in the fridge for a few minutes to cool, then whip the oils into a white cream with a hand mixer on high speed.

. Pour into a glass jar or containers and store at room temperature until ready to use.

Sleep-Inducing Facial Cream or Body Rub

. Total time: 5 minutes

. This all-natural night cream is excellent for assisting you in falling asleep. If you apply it to your face, it can also help clear up blemishes and breakouts.

INGREDIENTS:

. 5 drops frankincense essential oil

. 5 drops lavender essential oil

. 1 tbsp organic coconut oil

. 1 tsp olive oil

DIRECTIONS

. In a small container or jar, combine the ingredients.

. Use soft coconut oil rather than solid coconut oil. If necessary, pre-heat it in a double broiler.

. Stir in the remaining oils until well combined. Apply to your face and body. 

. You may want to pat . yourself down afterward to prevent the oil from seeping into your bed sheets. You can also save this for future use.

Its Side Effects

In terms of oil safety, frankincense essential oil is extremely well-tolerated, especially when compared to prescription medications. There have been no serious side effects associated with the use of frankincense oil reported to date. However, it is always a good idea to practise essential oil safety and only consume a few drops of any essential oil at a time in water or another beverage.

Some people may experience minor skin rashes and digestive issues such as nausea or stomach pains when exposed to frankincense oil.

Frankincense is also known to have blood-thinning properties, so anyone who has issues with blood clotting should avoid using frankincense oil or consult a doctor first. Otherwise, the oil may react negatively with certain anticoagulant medications.
